Cars parked in a row at short intervals
suspicions were aroused!
In an area that was sedate and quiet
until the woman arrived.
Moving into the bungalow it changed
could she be deranged?
Uncertain of these unsavoury strangers
in the neighbourhood!
Slowly the tranquil mood was lost
compromised by gangs!
Intimidation and fear replaced the trust
followed by the lust.
Unchecked house owners were terrorized
and just wanted to escape.
At any price just to leave unharmed
generations expelled.
Their memories and beloved homes
now only the evil roams!
They never had to call the police for help
nor seen violence.
In this rural suburb of a growing city
those days had gone!
When families through honest labour
helped their neighbour!
Once it was nice to visit my place of birth
now something I dread.
Nobody I knew lives there any more
landmarks vandalised.
Good neighbourhoods now just a mess
where nobody cares less!
The neighbourhood I remember has long past!
The Foureyed Poet.
