All That Remain Now!

Is it not sad old pictures are all that remain now

of a towns varied and historic past

many buildings have been demolished somehow

the excuse progress it happened too fast

those once quiet country lanes are gone forever

becoming busy noisy streets and roads

modern buildings stand the designs not so clever

byways filled with traffic of varied loads

people hurry by in a characterless town so cold

only stories to tell to hold the interest

negative vibes seem to emanate no longer old

in these priceless places they do not invest

listed buildings allowed to linger then soon decay

once in this poor state they are pulled down

if only the councils would see the harm one day

how it has become a sad and heartless town!

Once the character and history has been destroyed

that workmanship and craftwork is lost

with total disregard for the towns past is employed

the future generations will pay the cost!
