Flying How Big A Risk?

It is said flying is the safest form of transport

but as the air crashes start to mount.

An uneasy feeling ripples through the air

with more disturbing images being seen.

As there is a large loss of  life each time

are they accidents or a scene of a crime.

Also while on the ground nothing is earned

planes need to be flying in the sky.

So how often are they serviced to be safe

to give the passengers confidence to fly?

A question maybe not being asked enough

the airlines take big risks and too often bluff.

A flying tube has always filled me with dread

the numbers are rising above our heads.

I often wonder just how safe are these craft

with less profit do corners often get cut?

Our lives totally in so called expert hands

always a feat when each big machine lands.

Yet with so many airlines finding the pinch

what quality of planes and air crew?

Countless numbers are flying every year

as the fares are now better than the trains.

Like everything now profits are put before life

that is causing a massive surge in strife.

It has always amazed me how these massive tubes of metal get up and stay in the air. Maybe we take it for granted these craft are in top condition. But I do not believe that many of the airplanes are that safe anymore. Not being of any profit while on the ground, there must be great pressure to keep them flying at all times. This brings in the massive risk of cutting corners to achieve this aim. There are many stories and proven facts often too late, of maintenance not being done. Records falsified to say they have been serviced or parts fitted when they have not . And cheaper or second hand parts being used. These craft are so complicated and each part is crucial to keeping it in the sky. Now thought of as the main way to travel and often used like a bus. And that is fair enough as the prices are cheaper than the train and quicker for internal flights and obviously more convenient on longer trips. But the more planes there are greater the risk of major problems and inevitably accidents or questionable crashes.

But like life it is I suppose  a risk we are prepared to accept and thinking about it there is no alternative at the moment. But we should not get complacent, for profit big risks are increasingly taken place. And in the worlds present financial cricis making it an even more frightening time to be flying.

There are of course other factors in flying. More to go wrong as they become dependent on computer technology. The human factor and the weather all to be added into the mix. Life is a risk and we just have to face it, but the odds are stacking up against flying. Do you agree or not?
